Archives of Operative Medicine (AOM) maintains a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism in all submitted manuscripts. The journal adheres to the guidelines and definitions provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) regarding academic integrity and the ethical use of sources.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying text, images, data, or ideas from another source without proper citation
  • Reusing one’s own previously published work (self-plagiarism) without appropriate acknowledgment
  • Submitting a manuscript that contains portions of text copied from other sources, even if cited, without proper quotation or paraphrasing
  • Using AI-generated content without transparency or attribution (where applicable)

Screening Process

All manuscripts submitted to AOM are routinely screened for plagiarism using reliable plagiarism detection software (e.g., iThenticate or Turnitin) before the peer review process begins.

The editorial office reserves the right to:

  • Reject a manuscript at any stage if plagiarism is detected
  • Request revisions or clarifications in borderline cases
  • Retract published articles if plagiarism is identified post-publication

Consequences of Plagiarism

In cases of confirmed plagiarism, the following actions may be taken:

  • Immediate rejection of the manuscript
  • Notification to the corresponding author’s institution or funding agency
  • Retraction of the published article (if applicable), with a public notice
  • Banning of the authors from future submissions to the journal for a specified period

Author Responsibility

Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their work. They must properly cite all sources and provide references for all borrowed ideas, figures, and data. In the case of using third-party material, appropriate permissions must be obtained.

By submitting a manuscript, authors acknowledge that the content is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by another journal.
